Movement and graded strength exercises are important components in the successful rehabilitation of back pain. It is taught by our experienced Physiotherapist Kaitlyn Casper who will take time out with each new client who joins the class to discuss your current and past back-related issues.

A typical class includes a warmup of gentle range of movement exercises, techniques for postural corrections, core-based strength work, hip flexibility and strength exercises with an overall focus on restoring confidence with functional movement – and feeling good following the hour of exercise!

Exercises are adapted during the class to accommodate varying ability/pain levels.

Senior Men Strength & Flexibility Class

We are delighted to have introduced a senior men’s strength and flexibility class which has been so successful. We suggest that this class is most suited to those over 70 years. Designed by our senior physiotherapy team, the class consists of a variety of strength based exercises targeting the upper and lower body as well as core exercises to support the back and hip strength. The class will be led by highly experienced Physiotherapist Kaitlyn Casper.

So what is strengthening?

Strengthening is any activity that overloads your muscles. It usually will involve using your body weight or working against resistance. On average it can take up to six to eight weeks to see changes but you will be glad to hear that you will have immediate effects such as increased energy levels and a mood boost!

Physiotherapists are experts in movement analysis and exercise prescription, and all of are exercise classes are taught by experienced Physiotherapists.

Current research has shown benefits to strengthening for people living with long term health conditions.

Many of the participants in the class will have some underlying health issues, or relevant past medical history e.g arthritis, heart conditions etc. Kaitlyn will assess each individual participant on acceptance into the class to ensure that class participation is appropriate and that her exercise prescription will be personalized with any underlying conditions in mind.

Is this class for you?

If you are an older adult and you are looking to join a friendly class where you can build strength and do some exercises that are challenging and fun well this is for you!

In summary it is crucial to find a strengthening activity you enjoy which will make you more likely to stick to it and then gradually build it up over time.

So whether you are active or inactive currently, the key is to start somewhere and perhaps our class will be the place to begin!

We will be using the Novaerus Air Disinfection system to ensure the highest clean air quality to medical grade standards.

postnatal Pilates

Postnatal Pilates with Lorraine

Physiofusion offers small group Postnatal Pilates classes for new mums who are looking to increase core strength and improve body shape, posture & muscle tone in the first year of a new baby. Run by experienced Chartered Physiotherapist Lorraine O'Reilly who holds postgraduate certification in Postnatal Pilates, you can be assured that all exercises are safe and appropriate for your stage of postnatal recovery.

This course helps new mums reconnect with their core muscles and pelvic floor post-pregnancy as well as improve their general health and fitness levels. From experience, we are aware that most postpartum women will have some degree of diastasis recti, and we adapt exercises accordingly.

We focus on abdominal muscle retraining, pelvic floor rehabilitation, mobility and stability exercises for the spine and pelvis, as well as global and functional movements eg squats and lunges for overall improvements in muscle tone and strength.

Our next Postnatal Pilates term will start on Tuesday the 10th of September at 10:45 am with Lorraine O’Reilly, (babies welcome) and can be joined at any stage during the term.

Participants can commence from week 6 following a vaginal delivery, or 10 weeks following a C Section delivery. We have small group classes (6 per class) to ensure a personal experience with individual supervision and feedback.

Our clients will enjoy the benefits of the Novaerus Air Disinfection system to provide the highest clean air quality to medical grade standards.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy Pilates

Our Pregnancy Pilates course is taught by Becca Taylor, an experienced Occupational therapist.

Our class numbers are kept small (6 participants) to ensure plenty of individual attention and feedback/correction and adaptation of technique for each participant.

Our next term will start Thursday the 12th of September at 7:10 pm with Becca Taylor and can be joined at any stage.

Expect to move for the hour of the class, with exercises in standing, sitting, kneeling and side lying. We emphasise the important role our gluteal muscles play in the support of healthy movement through the pelvis and lower back during pregnancy, and thereby help in the prevention of pelvic girdle pain.

Please note that Pregnancy Pilates can typically be started from Week 12 of an uncomplicated pregnancy.

If you have any questions about your suitability for the class, please call us at the clinic or speak with your GP/Midwife/Consultant.
