Strength Exercise Classes for Senior Men

Physiofusion Men’s Strength & Flexibility Class - Thursdays at 2pm. Booking required.

For optimum physical and mental health adults should try to be active every day and aim to achieve at least 150 minutes of physical activity over a week through a variety of activities.

In response to client requests, we are delighted to have introduced a Mens’ Strength and Flexibility class which takes place each Thursday at 2pm in our studio, and is aimed at senior men (suggested 70 years+). Designed by our Senior Physiotherapy team, the class consists of a variety of strength-based exercises targeting the upper and lower body as well as the core exercise to support back and hip strength.

We like to use a variety of light resistance equipment such as dumbbell weights, strap-on weights, resistance bands, toning balls and in this way we can adapt exercises according the needs of each individual participant’s current level or ability. The class also combines everyday functional movements such as sit to stand and single leg balance without any equipment needed.

Is this class suitable for me?

Through participation in the class you will also become more familiar with exercises that you can continue with in your own home.

The exercises in this class are tailored for the strength and flexibility needs of older adults (eg over 70 years approximately). This class is currently run as a men’s class by request, however we are happy to add a similar class for a female or mixed population groups according to demand.

Many of the participants in the class will have some underlying health issues, or relevant past medical history eg arthritis, heart conditions etc. Physiotherapist Michaela Moss will assess each individual participant on acceptance into the class/course to ensure that class participation is appropriate and that her exercise prescription will be personalised with any underlying conditions in mind.

Physiotherapists are experts in movement analysis and exercise prescription, and all of our exercise classes are taught by an experienced Physiotherapist.

Current research has shown benefits to strengthening for people living with long term health conditions.

The class allows for you to track your progress and gradually increase the amount you can do keeping the exercises challenging and fun!

If I can’t get to a class how else can I start strengthening at home?

Strengthening doesn’t have to involve lifting heavy weights or going to the gym. If you’re putting in extra effort to do a movement it counts as strengthening. Whether it be at home practising a sit to stand holding shopping bags or bicep curling bottles of wine it all counts!
